fast and loose role-play

free and easy love, that's how it's s'posed to be!

want to thread with one of mine but aren't in the same game? want me to do something with one of yours in bakerstreet? can't find a good recent bakerstreet meme but want to thread anyway? want to explore au scenarios together? annoyed that i dropped that character you really wanted a thread with?

well drop me a comment here with whatever scenario (or link to a meme) you want, specify the character you want, and we can thread the merry day away!

any active or retired character from the muse list with two stars or more is fair game!

homeless characters are slightly different in that most of them don't have journals or icons set up, so you may have to give me a day or so to do that. and in some cases, a couple more days to canon review if i haven't in a while.

Thanks.

[That's it. That's all she sends. She could press him for more information, or ask him to get more for her, but she's sure Coulson and May will get suspicious of where her information came from if she presents them with more than that. This is more than enough to go on for now. Maybe Coulson can do something from the Cap angle.

She prepares to suit up.]

[ he should probably feel bad, selling rumlow out — the guy had reminded him a lot of himself, their few brief meetings. they could have made a good team. but he'd believed, really believed, and ward doesn't know what he believes in anymore. but he finds he doesn't feel too bad after all. ]
hackitude: scared (i knew i should've stayed home today)

[personal profile] hackitude 2014-09-17 10:36 am (UTC)(link)
[The mission with Rumlow goes south. Way south.

It wasn't that Ward's intel was wrong-- it wasn't. But they needed more. They didn't have the full weight of an organisation behind them any more-- they couldn't go in anywhere with guns blazing. They had to be cautious. Prepared. They had to do recon.

It's in doing all that recon that their cover gets blown. One minute Skye's watching him from her post in an abandoned building, the next minute she loses him from her sights. She swears. Trip's meant to be here helping her, but he went to get coffee for both of them. She's been up a long time at this point. In the last 48 hours, Skye has learned something that every long-time agent knows well: surveillance is boring.

Or at least so she thinks, until suddenly she hears something like a twig snap not too far away. She dives for cover. A split second later, gunfire rings out across the room in Skye's direction.]

[personal profile] ex_ammunition215 2014-09-17 11:24 am (UTC)(link)
[ ward spots when they've made her before skye does, having set up to do recon of their recon on the third floor of a nearby building. he's thought about approaching when he saw tripp leave, but then he watched the other soldier get nabbed and knew skye would be next if he didn't hurry. ]

[ 🎵 kick out the epic motherfucker - dada life ]

[ ward takes a zip line down to ground level and combat rolls, drawing his gun. he shoots three guys to get to her, but gets locked into a scuffle with a fourth that carries him into the room with her. one final blow knocks him out cold and he pulls to his feet, panting — and looking significantly less dead on his feet than he did the last time they met. ]

Time to go.
hackitude: surprised, unsure (this is our code red)

[personal profile] hackitude 2014-09-17 11:34 am (UTC)(link)
--Ward.

[Skye looks like she's not sure whether she's surprised, relieved or angry to see him. Maybe it's a combination of the three.

This is so familiar, she begins to reach out with a hand to take his out of habit-- but then stops herself. Maybe it was Ward who set this up. Maybe this was his plan all along. The hesitation is clear on her face.

There's more gunfire in the distance. She can't stand around here all day trying to second guess him. It's time to make a decision: either they go or they don't. Cutting quips will have to wait.]

Do you have a way out of here?

[personal profile] ex_ammunition215 2014-09-17 11:51 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah.

[ a beat. ]

Sort of.

[ he knows how to improvise an extraction plan. right now his primary idea is to shoot anyone who gets in their way, and keep shooting until they're clear. ]

Remember what I taught you.

[ he tells her, tossing her his gun and pulling the semiautomatic from his unconscious victim, checking the ammunition before hefting it, aimed at the door. ]

Let's go.

[ and it's just like any operation from before, as he checks around corners, signals her with the familiar movements. they move together so naturally. despite laughing at everyone who fell for his loner act, he's never really had that before. ]
hackitude: serious, vulnerable, looking up (and wait for the first stone)

[personal profile] hackitude 2014-09-17 12:09 pm (UTC)(link)
[She catches the gun and looks at it in distaste. It's no ICER. But she follows without complaint, and the gun is more confident in her hand now than the last time he saw her-- May's teaching, for sure.

When they come across another round of Hydra agents, she manages to get one in the leg with a well-aimed shot before ducking for cover. What's the use of wasting her bullets when Ward has a semi-automatic?

Skye looks around the corner again, trying to get a good look at the enemy back-up team. Is it just her, or are they multiplying?]

It's no use-- let's find another way.

[Sure, Ward's beaten worse odds. But she's not keen about the idea of wading into enemy gunfire if they can just abscond and take a long route back to the Bus. They're not stuck in a broom closet this time, after all.]

[personal profile] ex_ammunition215 2014-09-17 12:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[ ward looks ready to go, but skye makes the call, and he does what he does best — he obeys. ]

I took a look at the building schematics earlier — there's maintenance stair access to a subterranean carpark, which we could use to get access to the sewer system.
hackitude: confused (it's a cold hard shoulder)

[personal profile] hackitude 2014-09-17 12:47 pm (UTC)(link)
... The sewer system. Seriously?

[personal profile] ex_ammunition215 2014-09-17 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Would you rather take the street exit?
hackitude: surprised and disturbed (won't you let it dry?)

[personal profile] hackitude 2014-09-17 12:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[Another look out around the corner is met with a bullet firing dangerously close to her head. She pulls back quickly, but the look was enough to tell her that they're surrounded. Skye's lips purse together with a resigned frown.]

Sewers it is. Let's go.

[personal profile] ex_ammunition215 2014-09-17 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[ ward only has to take out two agents as they head down the stairs, and he does it quietly. the first one, he snaps the neck. but skye gives him this look when he kills so easily, like she doesn't know him, and the second he just punches out. he'll probably still die without medical attention, which is good, because he doesn't want anyone working out they've dropped a level. but it looks better. ]

[ the second agent has a radio, and he takes it, listens to the chatter carefully, lets it guide him. he understands what the short codes mean, and it gets them to the sewer entrance without another altercation. ]

Keep watch

[ he instructs skye, trusting that she won't put a bullet in his back as he unscrews the manhole cover, tests the ladder. ]

Okay. You first. Gotta warn you: this is going to be messy.
hackitude: nope, shrug (got my things packed)

[personal profile] hackitude 2014-09-17 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? The sewers are going to be messy? Weird.

[She prepares to go down the manhole, feet on the first few rungs of the ladder. Her head isn't even all the way down when her head recoils.]

Ugh. It stinks.

[personal profile] ex_ammunition215 2014-09-18 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Breathe through your mouth.

[ he's unsympathetic, or maybe just unable to spare her any attention, focusses on scanning the open carpark for any signs of intruders. ]

[ once she's down, he starts to follow, balancing on the ladder with no hands so he can pull the manhole closed without letting go of the gun. It has a nightlight on it, which he flips on and aims downwards, a tiny pinprick of light in an envelope of dark and smell. ]

I've got a torch, hang on.
hackitude: informative (running down my face)

[personal profile] hackitude 2014-09-18 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
[Skye descends rung by rung, talking as she goes, finding her footing even in the darkness. Ladders have a rhythm to them after all-- even in the dark, it's not hard.]

Can we just focus on getting down the ladder first before you start trying to fumble around with torches? I don't want you to like, fall down on top of me by accident because you were trying to find a torch.

[personal profile] ex_ammunition215 2014-09-18 11:13 am (UTC)(link)
I won't fall.

[ scoffed, maybe even a little offended. he winds his legs around the ladder like a cirque du soliel performer and holds himself upright as he reaches down to find the slim penlight on his thigh. it's brighter than the light from the gun. ]

Don't look up. I wanna see how far it is.

[ the answer is, not far until the ladder hits the water. though looking down a long shaft to the black gleam of water below resurfaces some unpleasant memories, and his chest lurches, fumbling the torch. ]
hackitude: eyeroll (all this hypocrisy)

[personal profile] hackitude 2014-09-18 11:28 am (UTC)(link)
[Skye just sighs and rolls her eyes in the darkness when Ward insists on doing his little cirque du soliel performance, continuing to climb down the ladder. She looks down when he indicates he's going to turn the torch on.

It's for that exact reason that she misses it completely when he fumbles it.]

[personal profile] ex_ammunition215 2014-09-20 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[ fortunately thanks to the whims of fate and chance and real-life dice rolling, he manages not to drop it on her head. or down into the water. instead he puts it between his teeth, holsters the semi-automatic as best he can when it's not actually his weapon (read: attaching it to his belt and hoping for the best) and keeps going. ]

[ it doesn't take long to hit water, but it's only knee high, and it's slow-running, which means it's relatively clean despite the intense dank smell. ward hands her the torch, taking a moment to get his bearings. ]

We came down facing the front entrance.

[ he makes a gesture in that direction. ]

The water's flowing that way, so if we go that way we'll be heading out of the township.

[ blah blah directions. ]
hackitude: serious, contemplative (it's been cold for years)

[personal profile] hackitude 2014-09-20 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[She can't shake the sense that she's walking into a trap. But what other choice does she have? Stick with Ward, or go back up and face Hydra gunmen? Better the devil she knows.]

... You go first.

[If she's about to walk into a trap, at the very least she can have Ward in front of her instead of behind.]

[personal profile] ex_ammunition215 2014-09-20 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure. Do you want the flashlight or the gun?

[ the gun's light isn't as strong or as wide, but he thinks they should both have a light source just in case. ]
hackitude: eyebrows hella raised (i know I will figure it out)

[personal profile] hackitude 2014-09-20 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Iiiii'll take the gun, thank you.

[She already has one, but she feels better if she relieves Ward of at least one lethal weapon. Not like he isn't a lethal weapon all on his own without it, but oh well. It's the best she can do.]

[personal profile] ex_ammunition215 2014-09-20 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[ he hands it over willingly, though that shouldn't be taken as a sign of trust: he feels like so long as she's not pointing it at the base of his skull, he could still take her out. ]

[ and with the slightly militant marching order of him in the lead and she behind him with a weapon, he sets off. he's quiet, though, trying to concentrate so as to keep a mental map of the plans he'd studied, the above-ground terrain of the city, and their own position based on the turns of the tunnels. at one point he actually stops when the drain begins to curve and narrow, shakes his head and makes them retrace their steps to the wider tunnel it shot off from. ]
hackitude: determined (all this bad blood here)

[personal profile] hackitude 2014-09-20 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ward might appreciate the silence to concentrate, but Skye finds it oppressive. She appreciates that she doesn't have to listen to him talk, but at the same time that only leaves her alone with her thoughts. And when she's trudging down a dark tunnel with Ward... what else is there to think about other than Ward? She keeps trying to redirect her thoughts, make herself think about something-- anything-- else. Bunnies. Coulson. Unfinished bits of code. But it's no good. Eventually, her thoughts always circle back around to him.

She hates him. He betrayed them. He betrayed her. He works for a Nazi organisation, he killed people. In cold blood. He made her like him. How much of it was a lie? All of it? Some of it? What is the real Grant Ward even like? Were his parents and brother really even abusive, or was that just a sob story to lower her defenses? Even if it was true, that doesn't excuse his behavior. She kissed him. And she really liked it. She hates that, too. His feelings for her are real. Gross. Clearly not real enough to tell her the truth.

Eventually she can't take it anymore.]

... How did you know where to find me?

[personal profile] ex_ammunition215 2014-09-20 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Found Rumlow.

[ well, that's succinct. ]
hackitude: unsure, confused, disturbed (turning the colours in rows)

[personal profile] hackitude 2014-09-20 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
... I didn't say we were going after him. [Well, it was implied, but--] Or when.
