They walk in silence for a few minutes while Albert tries to cast his mind around for a safe topic of conversation. Knowing Kanda's past, "How did you two meet?" is almost certain to end in disaster. And "How have you been since I last saw you?" seems even more fraught, given what he's picked up. Even Albert isn't that insensitive.
