[Ahsoka blinks at the new Lieutenant-- it's rare to see field operatives these days that aren't clone troopers. And his presence in the Force is startling enough that there's no way he's just a regular human. Still... he isn't a Jedi, either. For a moment, she's silent as she gathers her wits about her for a reply-- totally unsure of what to say.]

I... yes. That's me. [Splendidly done, Ahsoka. She shakes her head as if to clear it. Stick to the facts, she chides herself. She presses a button on her holopad and a transparent map of the Separatist and surrounding terrain appears.]

General Skywalker and 501st Division has been ordered to lead the assault on the front gates. But... some information has come to light that leads us to believe the information we got regarding the numbers on this base might be inaccurate. If it's true... the 501st would be walking in to a massacre.

Our mission is to take a small, quick scouting party and infiltrate from the rear tunnels, find out exactly what the situation is. We go in, we go out. Nobody gets seen, nobody fights anything. Any questions?

_{[He notices her confusion and can begin to guess why she'd react, but he moves right past it, wanting to call attention to her hesitation and put her on the spot about as little as he wants to get into his own history.

Paying attention to the holographic map as she outlines the plan, he nods his understanding.]}

Is General Skywalker standing by until we can get the intel, or are we on a time limit?

For now he's standing by. If his position is compromised, though, that could change very quickly.

Still. We don't know what we're walking in to here, so I'd prefer it if we take it as carefully as possible. There's no point in rushing for a maybe.

I agree. I'll get three of my men and let the others stand by in case anything changes. Do we need anything else or are we going in now?

[Ahsoka shakes her head.]

The trek isn't long enough to need overnight supplies. Water, your comms, your weapons and an emergency kit should be enough.

I'd like to leave as soon as your people are ready. I'll leave the decision of who to pick up to you. [He'd know who out of his people are best suited to this type of mission better than she would, after all.]

Yes, Commander. I'll be back shortly.

_{[He inclines his head in a nod of respect before he turns and taps the clone who had been standing by his side on the shoulder in a friendly gesture to come with, something that's wholly unnecessary but Ferus still does, and he goes back to his craft.

Deferring to someone much younger than him is certainly a new experience, but it's easy to do and fall into, and he's not going to question Ahsoka's judgment. She's Jedi; he hasn't been for years, but it's ingrained in him still to listen to them.

Picking his troopers is a quick process, because he only leads a few dozen and know them all pretty well. They're a mix of clones and not, as he still has a handful soldiers with him that are from the Bellassan reserves, and watching them interact is always something of interest.

Still, for this, he picks three of the clones, mostly because their gear will be better suited for the mission as far as he can tell, and leaves his second lieutenant in charge as the rest of them gear up.

They're back with Ahsoka and her own team in no time.]}

[Ahsoka gives them all a once over and seems satisfied that everyone is geared appropriately. She gives a nod of approval.]

Has everyone been briefed?

_{[There's a chorus of "yes"es in response, because as far as this leg of the mission goes, there's no confusion even from the newcomers.

Most of what's important appears to be easily summarized by context, anyway: there's a war. This is a battlefront. If Skywalker is leading an assault, they'll help.]}

Good. ... One last thing, before we go.

I'm Commander Ahsoka Tano. There-- that's me introduced.

What are your names?

[Names, she asks for. Not numbers. She's unfamiliar with this unit, but she's never thought of the clones as numbers.]

_{[Ah. Ferus gives a small smile, deciding he likes her already.

The troopers introduce themselves one by one: there's Raz, Thousand and Bit, and they give their names easily, relaxed but at the same time primed to answer anything asked of them, much like their brethren.]}

And Lieutenant Ferus Olin, for anyone who missed out. _{[Ferus adds this with a quick grin, looking to Ahsoka and her own men.]} Do we get to know your team? We're all working together.

Glad to be working with you, Lieutenant.

[Ahsoka grins then and looks back at her own three men.] Boys?

[They introduce themselves as well. Dodger, Spike and Trip.]

... All right. Are we ready to get this show on the road?

Sure are, Commander. Let's go.

_{[And as soon as Ahsoka sets the pace, they are indeed going. The terrain doesn't look like it'll be particularly challenging, but the course is winding and might be a little slow going in such a forrested area. Still, it beats open ground.]}

[Ahsoka considers him as they walk. If she wants to get to know him better, it'll have to be now or never. The closer in they get to enemy lines, the less likely it is that they'll be able to talk. After a few minutes setting the pace and making sure everyone is settled in, she draws level with Ferus.]

... So, Lieutenant.

[She hesitates-- she isn't quite sure how to phrase what she wants to ask.]

Yes, Commander.

_{[It's not a question, because he's pretty sure he has an idea of what's on her mind. But the look he gives her is open enough - she's free to ask her questions, for now. He can at the very least satisfy her curiosity, but he's not going to volunteer information himself, either.]}

... You're ... strong with the Force, aren't you.

[It's not really the question she wants to ask. But she feels like asking it straight up would be intrusive and rude. She doesn't know this man well enough to know how he'd respond, and it isn't really her business besides. So she starts with a true statement instead-- to test the waters.]

I was.

_{[Which is true enough, in Ferus' opinion - he had a lot of promise back then, and he could do much he can't anymore. He supposes he still is strong with it just by virtue of having once been, but it doesn't feel that way, and so there's a bit of a shrug in the way he answers. He he lowers his voice though, eyebrows a little raised.]}

I don't like to advertise it. People get expectations.

Was? ... Did something happen?

[Suddenly she seems more like her age-- a curious sixteen year old who forgets her manners in the wake of being curious and nosy.]

I stopped accessing it.

_{[Simply put, and he imagines she'll see why inaction lessens his ability with it.]}

[The confusion and horror shows plain on Ahsoka's face. She can't imagine simply shutting herself off from the Force like that. She asks the next question before she can even think twice about it.]

Why?

_{[In any other circumstance - with any other topic - he might have found that a little amusing, the total disbelief in her. But as it stands with something like the Force, something that big, he can't help a faint grimace.

He considers for a moment. Looks past her, ahead.]}

It came naturally. I know that’s hard to believe. But I left the Order years ago and I don't regret it.

_{[it's context he mostly offers because he knows she'll be able to guess it eventually anyway. He's Force trained. It's not something he can hide.]}

[Well, that answers that question, then.]

... So you were a Jedi.

[It isn't a question, more a statement of wonder.

After all-- why would anyone leave the Order?]

A padawan, actually.

_{[he was still just a boy when he left, really. And he doesn’t like to let anyone believe he was ever a full-fledged Jedi.[}

But-- why would you leave? The Order is... it's family!

I don't think you know me that well yet, Commander.

_{[Looking back at her, he raises his eyebrows. He manages to be teasing enough to not be ride or challenging, but the message should be clear: his reasons are personal.]}

[The stripes on her lekku darken slightly in embarrassment. She should have known better, really-- she just let curiosity get the better of her. But the question was outright rude. In any case, she looks appropriately sheepish.]

... Right. ... Of course. You're right.

[An awkward silence descends then, leaving Ahsoka unsure of how to proceed.]
